Eye doctor given 5 years probation for criminal sexual conduct

In September 2007, police in Bloomfield, Michigan began in investigation into claims that an eye doctor had touched her inappropriately during an exam. Dr. Matthew Burman was charged with fourth degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. During the course of the investigation, it became clear this criminal behavior was not an isolated incident. The trial for the charges against Dr. Burman occurred in May 2008. He was sentenced to five years probation and allowed to continue working as long as he has a chaperone while working with female patients.
