Dr. Charles Dehaan of Rockford, Illinois faces new criminal charges after being accused of sexually abusing multiple patients during home visits and inside assisted living centers.
Dr. Dehaan, 60, faces 26 counts that include 22 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and four counts of criminal sexual abuse involving three victims between October 2010 and December 2013. All the victims were either over 60 or disabled during the time of the abuse.
Dehaan worked in private practice for Housecall Physicians Group of Rockford and also made house calls throughout the Chicagoland area. Rockford police received two complaints from two residents in different assisted living centers who said Dehaan abused them. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department also received a complaint from a woman that Dehaan abused her within her home.
He is currently being held in the Winnebago COunty Jail on $500,000 bond. He faces up to seven years in prison for the aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges.
In addition, Dehaan also faces charges of engaging in a scheme to defraud Medicare. The healthcare fraud charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
