Minnesota chiropractor Paul D. Thompson pled guilty to raping one of the former clients. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Thompson will spend the next 4 years in prison, with 15 years of post-prison probation and supervision and he will have to register as a sex offender for at least 10 years. Before this incident, Mr. Thompson was twice put on probation by the Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners for inappropriately touching a female client and a female employee.
Because of this case, State Senator John Marty, DFL-Roseville, called for the resignation of the board’s executive director, Larry Spicer.
During court proceedings, an assistant county attorney read a letter from the victim’s sister, which expressed the severe pain and suffering that came from the sex abuse. The victim suffered from severe depression and post-traumatic stress disorder and had to be hospitalized twice.
In addition to registering as a sex offender, Thompson will also have to pay $9,415 in restitution.
