Joseph P. Carelli, a male nurse, is accused of having sexual contact with a 16-year old female patient over a two-week period at Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Mr. Carelli was suspended from work at the hospital when the investigation began in mid-December, 2013. He was arrested and charged soon after. In 2014, Carelli admitted his assault and was sentenced to two years in prison. In addition he lost his nursing credentials and will have to register as a sex offender once he gets out of prison.
There’s no indication Carelli sexually abused any other victims. Syracuse City Court Judge Rory McMahan put an order of protection in place for the 16-year old victim from Carelli, and ordered that police not release a mugshot.
